Connections for Success Launches

August 3, 2011

The Sunrise Rotary program that will provide mentors to emancipated foster children attending SBCC made a serious step towards becoming a reality.

The program now has a name, “Connections For Success.” An information session was held last week at the home of Diana Cecala and Kathy Reynolds. This information meeting was attended by 14 Sunrise members who expressed interest in the program. The session was conducted by Diana Cecala, Sunrise Rotary Club, Mentor program coordinator with Wendy MacGregor, Foster Youth Coordinator for Santa Barbara City College.

Topics discussed included background and statistics of emancipated foster children in California, history of the program, objectives of the program, proposed management structure, proposed procedures, mentoring guidelines and expectations, and required reporting for mentors.

This was follow by questions and discussion from the potential mentors who then received mentor application forms. There are currently nine Sunrise members signed up with a few more considering becoming a mentor. What an outstanding response from the club!  Thank you Sunrisers for rising to this occasion!
