The Blogle editors caught up with Kimberly Horn to learn a bit more about her. Read on to see what we learned.
Why did you decide to join Rotary?
I decided to join Rotary as I had a taste for it while in Rotaract many years ago. Now that I am at a place in my career where I can dedicate more time to my philanthropy goals, it made perfect sense. Rotary seemed the perfect fit, and when someone I greatly respect (Tom Putnam!) invited me, I couldn’t believe the timing and sense that it made. I feel very blessed.
What are one or two things you hope to do as a Rotarian?
I hope to be more active in the community and increase awareness of the wonderful things that Rotary Sunrise does both locally and internationally.
Name three of your accomplishments that not everyone knows.
I have run a marathon, competed in a 1/2 iron man, and started managing a photography business in college!
What/where did you study?
I studied Business Administration, with an emphasis in Financial Services and Human Resource Management, at Chico State up north. I then pursued a Masters degree and the CFP credential in Finance.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Helping people. My favorite part is without a doubt the “before and after picture.” Meaning, it is rewarding for me to see the transformations in clients in regard to getting on a healthy spending/saving pattern, and organizing their estates to properly reflect their goals and to align their investments. Working with such amazing people is probably a tie for the best part of my job. I am honored to work with such fantastic community members!
What’s your favorite thing to do in Santa Barbara at sunrise?
Being that I am still new I will leave this open … but thus far I am enamored with the meetings, the people and the spirit in the room to be of service.
What should we know about your family?
I don’t know, it’s mainly kitties and then my folks live in Agoura, where I was raised. My family in SB consists of my wonderful friends and partner, Todd. (He comes with two little shortstacks that are a delight!)
Cats or dogs?
Cats! I have one ragdoll kitty named Sebastian Falkor Redford, aka “Buddy.” And I am picking up a 2nd kitty in 2 weeks and she is a ragdoll, same mother, her name is Buttercup! As in Princess Buttercup 🙂
Best book you have read this year?
The Twelfth Imam
What’s one topic you’d like to see covered in a Rotary meeting program/presentation?
I’d love to see a program on Ellings Park as I understand that we do service work out there but I am not all that familiar with the history of the park and exactly how we are helping to improve it!
